Best Ever Sugar Cookies

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup butter, softened

  • 1 cups sugar in the raw

  • 1/4 cup maple syrup

  • 1 egg

  • 3 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp baking powder

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • OPTIONAL SUGAR TOPPING: I recommend Watkins Sprinkles *This brand is free from those yucky artificial dyes, they also have great food coloring! OR I like to use Sugar in the Raw mixed with cinnamon. You could also skip the sprinkles & frost them!

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl with a standing mixer or hand mixer, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 1 minute. * you can also do this by hand with a baking spatula!*

  3. Add in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract; beat until combined.

  4. Add in flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Mix until just combined, making sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl every now and again.

  5. Roll dough into a ball & store in fridge for 30minutes to an hour.

  6. Remove from fridge & roll out dough to cut cookie shapes.

  7. Sprinkle with sugar of choice!

  8. Place on baking sheet, about 2" apart. Bake for 10-11 minutes, or until cookies have set.

  9. Remove from oven and allow to cool on a cooling rack for 10 minutes.
